What opportunities are there for further training?

This depends on the area of postgraduate training you are interested in.

Locally, there are a number of opportunities. You can read for a Master’s degree in Clinical, Counselling or Educational Psychology at the University of Malta.

However, in order to be eligible for this you would first need to work for at least 2 years in a related field where you can experience direct work with a specific client population. Voluntary work is also considered.

Alternatively you may opt to further your studies abroad where you will be able to choose from various Master’s level or Doctorate degrees with different specializations in psychology.

If you are interested in more specialized areas of study such as Family Therapy or Gestalt Psychotherapy there are also private institutions that offer such training locally. Whilst these courses would give you training in a specific psychotherapy and you will be a psychotherapist in your own right, the courses are usually a stepping stone. You might opt for this in preparation for a Master’s degree in psychology.
